CalypsoPrint

CalypsoPrint is an innovative data integration tool for extracting referral data from the National e-Referral Service (e-RS) for re-use in clinical and referral management systems. It extracts referral and demographic information, along with referral letters and attachments, appointment details, audit trails, and Pathway start dates and stores the information in its database.  CalypsoPrint can generate HL7 messages as well as creating a single printable referral document that could be loaded into a clinical system or document management system;  its database can be used to feed referral management or RTT management systems. CalypsoPrint also supports automatic bulk printing of referrals. 


CalypsoPrint can be used by Providers to solve a number of potential issues around the use of e-RS, as explained in the following section. 


GP and other referrals are delivered to service providers via the national e-Referrals Service and are available to view online by clinicians with a ‘smart card’. Whilst this can work very well, it does create a number of challenges for providers: 

  • Multiple work flows. e-RS will typically deliver only a portion of referrals to a provider, with the remainder arriving by other means such as paper, fax, or email. Multiple work flows within the provider make referral management more complex and time consuming than necessary. 
  • Additional training. The use of additional business processes and IT systems impacts staff training. 
  • Smart card management. A lost or expired smart card, or a forgotten PIN, can be time consuming and frustrating to resolve. 

 CalypsoPrint can help providers overcome these issues by extracting the referral and related information from e-RS so that it can be accessed by other trust IT systems.
